Internationally known climate therapy and health resort. It is situated in the valley of the Sandanska Bistritsa river, at the foot of the south-western slopes of Pirin.

Without exaggeration the climate of Sandanski can be described as unique. Throughout the year, air temperatures are higher than anywhere else in the country. The average annual temperature (14.7C) is the highest in Bulgaria. The winter is mild and short, and the autumn - long and warm. The relative air humidity is low (66 per cent), and the annual duration of sunshine is no less than 2,436 hours. Sandanski has the lowest annual rainfall in Bulgaria (127 litres per square metre) and almost no foggy days. The air is remarkably clean and pollution free.

Apart from its natural beauty, lush vegetation and remarkably wholesome climate, the resort also features a multitude of mineral springs.. The waters are clear , colourless, odourless with a pleasant taste, slightly fluoric.

The Climate in Sandanski municipality is characterized as temperately continental and a climate with a transition to a Mediterranean climate, which influence the annual distribution of the rainfalls and the temperature rate. 

The average annual temperature in the town of Sandanski is 13.4ºС, and the average percentage of moisture is one of the lowest in the country - 66%. The average number of  rainy days with over 1mm is only 60-70. The duration of sunshine in the town of Sandanski  is the longest for the country - 2506 hours. Considering the significant sunshine even during winter months the snow cover in the region is rare. 
 

The average wind speed is 2 m/sec, and the constant breeze along the flow of Sandanska Bistritsa river is tangible almost during the whole day and contributes to the air freshness and to the easier hot summer days stand. 
The region is characterized by a comparatively small number of misty days - only 5 days annually, and only during winter months. The climate in the town of Sandanski varies due to the intensely rough terrain. The mountains Belasitsa and Slavyanka are over 2000 m, and Pirin almost - 3000 m,  while along the valleys of the rivers Mesta, Struma and Strumeshnitsa there are places of  200 m (Sandanski) to 730 m (Razlog).
     

During winter months there are mainly rainfalls. Spring comes earlier in this region of the country. Approximately since 25th of March the temperature is steady, over 10 ºС. The total quantity of rainfalls is one of the smallest for the country. 
     

During summer Sandanski region has the longest period of sunshine in the country. The average temperature for July is about 29ºС, and the days with a temperature over 20ºС in July are about 16.
     

Autumn is approximately mild and the sunny days continue till the end of November.
