Around Javea

Arenal beach is a shell shaped bay with golden sands ideal for families, and visitors of all ages. It is the most popular beach in Javea. With it´s shell shaped bay, golden sands and shallow clear water, There is something for everybody. Swings, climbing frames,and slides for the children, volley ball nets and water sports for the energetic, laze in the sunbed ,or stroll along the promenade. On a summer evening you can search out a bargain at the many craft stalls along the promenade or chill out in one of the many trendy bars and restaurants and watch the world go by.

There are many excellent bars, restaurants and shops all on your doorstep.

Javea is without doubt one of the prettiest resorts on the Costa Blanca. The great variety of landscapes and a mild climate makes it an ideal destination for year round holidays.Javea is made up of 3 centres.the Marina, old town and the livelier Arenal playa. From the port and marina you can walk down to buy freshly caught fish from the¨Aduanos del mar¨ or fisherman´s quarter. Enjoy an excellent meal or tapas in the many restaurants, bars and cafes have a stroll around the many shops

A walk into old town with it's narrow winding streets and hidden plazas is a must. You can soak up the atmosphere of the unusual architecture and gothic buildings and a visit to the market to experience real Spanish life!

Depending on when you visit there would be a good chance of you been able to enjoy one of the many fiestas wether it is the Moors and Christians enacting out a battle on the beach, Easter celebrations, three kings in January fallas or St Juan with the bonfires on the beach, they are all spectacular and worth watching.

Time to explore

Our area is known as the orange blossom coast with the vast fertile citrus groves of oranges and lemons.

To the south of Javea there are hidden beaches and coves to explore. Such as the Cala Blanca and Ganadella also Ambola which is a nudist beach. If you are feeling energetic you could have a walk in the Montgo national park the landmark of Javea.At the summit of 753 metres you have stunning 360 degree views you can even sea Ibiza to the East.

A short drive away you can explore the winding streets of the Jalon and Orba valleys with the typically Spanish white washed houses. You could sample the locally produced wines including the famous Moscatel at the local bodegas. This is without doubt the real Spain!!

The Costa Blanca is a very popular region with visitors. Miles of award winning soft white sandy beaches shelving gently into the Mediterranean this makes a good choice for children. Benidorm is an excellent choice for wonderful sandy beaches and vibrant night life. There is an Aquapark nearby Terra Mitica and for a night out visit Benidorm Palace. Javea golf course is on the doorstep but only a short drive away you will find La Sella and Oliva Nova golf courses.

A 20 minute drive away is El Vergal safari park a good day out for any age, in the same area visit the Spanish towns of Pego,

Oliva and Gandia. The area is steeped in History relax and be a part of the Spanish way of life if only for a short while.

Trains run between Valencia and Gandia, or a one hour drive will take you to Valencia the region's capital. This stunning city is a must to visit, whether it be museums or the oceanographic or just shop till you drop ( into the nearest tapas bar!!) Well you have to experience the Spanish way of life!!

Javea area description

Theres a lot to tell about Javea, or Xabia in Valenciano. Like for instance that the World Health Organisation named it as one of the healthiest climates in the world or that there are more recorded hours of sunshine per year on this little point of land than in any other place in Spain. That is obviously of importance and one of the main reasons why the northern Europeans visit Javea but there is much much more to this charming little town.
Javeas also long been called Amanecer de Espana, Dawn of Spain. This because its situated on the most eastern tip of south Spain, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, every morning the rising sun is seen first here in Javea before setting off to light and warm the rest of the country. One day San Antonio, another day San Martin, or Cabo de la Nao sees the first golden rays. But always day dawns over that blue sea, enriching the life of the old Spanish fishing community.
There is a sense of contentment, pleasure and ease. This is partly because Javea continues to be a working port and not just a tourist mecca but also because it is a place where people from many parts of northern Europe come to live permanently, not just a few weeks a year. There is much history here, with the influence of the Moors much in evidence, with perhaps the ancient San Bartolome Church containing the soul of the village. One of its inner walls was there in 1244 when King Jaime El Conquistador defeated the Moors here, whilst the outside wall is pockmarked by fusillades of the Civil war seven centuries later.
Then there are the wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables, the wine of all qualities and prices, the incredibly beautiful almond blossom in February, the outside markets, the fields of orange trees producing their blossom in March which perfumes the whole valley and surroundings , literally hundreds of restaurants (where to pay more than a £10 a head is a special occasion) and then of course always the clear clear air. Halfway between Alicante and Valencia airports, less than an hour from each via a modern Autopista, but far enough away to never see an aeroplane. Centrally placed to reach the cities of Madrid or Barcelona, to travel down to the Costa del Sol or just travel 10 minutes inland into the hills that surround Javea.
Of course there are the tourists, but unlike most of the resorts on the Costas of Spain, the vacationers here prefer to rent a villa with a private pool, or an apartment with a communal pool. There are very few hotels in Javea, and those that are here do not cater for package holidays. Importantly, the Spanish have taken Javea to their hearts, and make up a large percentage of the visitors. Especially the people from Madrid and Valencia love to come here to holiday and celebrate their fiestas. There are a number of areas of Javea where people have chosen to live, whether it is an apartment or town house in the port or near the beach, or a villa in an urbanization or the surrounding countryside.
Javea is no longer a hidden paradise. Clubs, restaurants, the Parador, the Javea Golf Course, and our proud Club Nautico do all they can to make us known as does the annual Tourist Feria. The shooting range on La Plana, riding stables, tennis courts, cricket pitch, bowling clubs, undersea diving facilities - exist for the pleasure and profit of all. Many local clubs exist and walking in the area is a favourite past-time. But above all, Javea has managed to keep its identity and never turned into a hollow seasonal place with high-rises full of strangers. Then last but not least theres our big friend El Montgo. The mountain just above Javea which stands guard over us all (and our wonderful weather) and from certain angles looks like a sleeping elephant. In 1987 its pine forest slopes were decreed a Parque Natural consisting of some 2,150 hectares, making sure that its beauty would never be lost.
There remains much more to tell and well mention some more details on the other pages on specifics in Javea but in the end we can only suggest you visit Javea yourself to find out first hand about this jewel of the Spanish coast.
