Santa Pola Location: Baix Vinalopó district (Comarca), Alicante province, Comunidad de Valencia, Spain. Population: 22,253 (2003 census). Located on Spain's Costa Blanca, the coastal town of Santa Pola is a busy fishing port and a lively holiday resort. Santa Pola has a large fishing fleet and fishing has always been important for the economy of the town. To the south of the town lay a large area of salt lakes, where the production of salt has taken place since Roman times, between the salt lakes and the sea are miles of wonderful sandy beaches and this is a particularly popular area for kite flying and dozens can be seen on a breezy day. Santa Pola's castle and watchtowers date from the 16th entury when they were built to defend against attacks from Barbary pirates who sailed these coasts in those long past times. A large amount of property development has taken place in Santa Pola in recent years (as it has along this entire coastline), with the ever increasing demand for homes in the sun. Worth a look in Santa Pola is the Museo del Mar (Sea Museum) with excellent displays of marine life, also worth a trip is the daily fish market which takes place in the harbour, you might also want to try a local seafood dish in one of the many excellent restaurants. Summer time is busy in Santa Pola, as large numbers of tourists descend on this coastline, especially during June, July and August. Santa Pola is located on the N-332 coastal road between Guardamar del Segura and Alicante and is around a ten minute drive from Alicante (El Altet) airport. Santa Pola Fiestas: Santa Pola celebrates a number of important fiestas and festivities throughout the year including the Moors and Christians (March and April), the Romeria (June), the Virgen del Carmen (July), La Virgen de Loreto (September) and of course the Christmas celebrations. Santa Pola is located south of Alicante and its airport between El Altet and La Marina, the area is easily recognised by the huge salt pans from which large quantities of salt are extracted, piles of salt can be seen at the side of the road, waiting for shipment. Santa Pola can be easily accessed from the N-332 coast road and is about 15 minutes from Alicante airport. Santa Pola Weather: Santa Pola enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, making it a perfect place to visit all year round. There is a good range of holiday rental property available in the area for your visit. Santa Pola Beaches: Santa Pola has 15 kilometres of coastline most of it consisting of fine sandy beaches, very safe to enjoy swimming, diving and other water sports. From north to south, the Santa Pola coastline begins with 2 peaceful, natural beaches and continues with 2 wide, sandy beaches. Secluded and pretty coves are also nearby which are ideal for diving - and are a paradise for windsurfers. Between the cape and the port you will find Varadero and Levante beaches backed by a promenade. Boats sail between the port and Tabarca Island about 3 km away. Further to the south there are 4 urban beaches of a more lively nature, particularly the popular Gran Playa beach. Santa Pola has two diving centres, a dinghy school in the yacht club and windsurf and catamaran rental facilities on Levante, Gran Playa and Tamarit beaches

Santa Pola is located only 12 minutes from the airport and just 17 Km from Alicante. Only 15 min to the nearest golf course. Diving, sailing and fishing within 5 min. Plus Horsebackriding 15 minutes away. Whether you're after a holiday adventure, scuba diving around the marine reserve of Tabarca, paragliding above the famous Santa Pola Salinas or just relaxing on miles of golden sand, Santa Pola has something for everyone. Plus there is a well known nudist beach near the nature reserve area. Santa pola is also a major exporter of Salt and in that particular area you can see a lot of interesting wildlife such as the beautiful pink flamingos.
