In the center of the town is the 16th century fortress castle
built in the military Renaissance style. Today it contains an Aquarium displaying some of the species from the Santa Pola bay, and a Sea Museum exhibiting archaeological artifacts and maritime objects. Why not pay a visit the Roman Palmeral Villa from the early Empire and a 4th century Roman fish factory, in addition to numerous Iberian and Greek ruins. Santa Pola's
endless long sandy beaches, with their 'sun-trap' sand dunes, are renowned for their cleanliness and shallow waters and stretch for nearly 10 miles.
The Salinas (salt-flats) are another interesting aspect of Santa Pola and are well worth a visit. You may even see flamingos in their natural habitat!
